Silver is a soft, lustrous metal, so gentle cleaning is important. To ensure your jewelry continues to look as good as new, here are a few ways to care for your Eternity sterling silver item.
We recommend routine cleaning of your item every four to six weeks, using one of the options below.
Polishing Cloth
Polishing is the most effective solution when tarnishing is not too severe. A jewelry polishing cloth is the best cloth option when performing routine cleanings.
While not as good as a polishing cloth, you can also use a lint-free flannel, microfiber, or soft, non-abrasive cloth for cleaning.
Never use paper towels as they can contain fibers that can scratch the silver.
Silver Jewelry Cleaner
The Blitz® Silvershine™ kit is formulated to remove tarnish from silver without using toxic or potentially damaging chemicals. It's easy to use and one of our favorite options.
- Combine ordinary tap water with the activator solution, and watch as tarnish is lifted from the surface of your silver.
- After use, cap the jar tightly; you can reuse the solution until it becomes visibly dirty. When it is exhausted, discard the solution and mix a fresh batch with convenient refills of the activator solution.
- Rinse your jewelry with fresh warm water and dry completely with a soft microfiber towel.
- Finally, use a polishing cloth to add extra sparkle.
White Vinegar & Baking Soda
If you do not have silver cleaner available, or prefer a DYI option, you can use white vinegar and baking soda instead.
- Combine ½ cup of white vinegar with 2 tablespoons of baking soda in a glass, plastic, or ceramic bowl. Warning: this mixture fizzes.
- Soak your tarnished silver in the solution for two to three hours.
- Finally, rinse with fresh warm water and dry completely using a nonabrasive cloth or microfiber towel.
Soap & Water Mixture
- Add a few drops of liquid dish soap to warm water. Mix until bubbles form.
- Soak jewelry in the solution for about 15 minutes.
- Use a soft-bristle brush, such as a toothbrush, to clean any crevices.
- Rinse jewelry in warm water.
- To dry, gently rub jewelry with a clean microfiber towel.
- Finish up with a polishing cloth to add extra sparkle.
Storage
When you're not wearing your silver jewelry, it's important to store it correctly. Exposure to air tarnishes sterling silver, so keep your item in an airtight container, or plastic bag, when not being worn.
